JOSEPH T. COHANE

Salem – Joseph T. Cohane, 75, of 8 Smooth Sailor Court, beloved husband of Mary J. Cohane, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Cohane was married to Mary, his wife, for 52 years. They were married in the Bronx, NY on October 22, 1960. He thanked her for her love and support in raising their wonderful family.

A native of New York, Joseph T. Cohane was the son of Frank and Katherine Cohane. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, John and Frank, sisters Kathleen (Sussingham), Laura (Jones) , Marion (Peterson) and is survived by his brother Gerard of Connecticut.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cohane is survived by five sons and two daughters; Joseph (Christine) Cohane, Michael (Jackie) Cohane, Peter (Mary) Cohane, Patrick (Barbara) Cohane, Robert (Angela) Cohane; and daughters, Kathleen (Kevin) Rattigan and Jeanne M. Cohane. Mr. Cohane is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Katelyn, Robbie , Sydney, Abigail, Michael, Travis, Raymond, Rachel, Timothy(Cohane) and Dylan, Sara and Matthew (Rattigan).

Mr. Cohane graduated from Manhattan College of New York. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. for 34 years. He was responsible for overseeing the construction of some of the largest Academy projects including the West Point Hospital and Cadet Basketball and Hockey Arenas. As recognition of his tremendous contributions to the Academy, Mr. Cohane was presented with the "Cadet Sword" at the time of his retirement, an honor exclusively presented to graduating "First Class Cadets" of West Point.

Mr. Cohane was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Keowee Key Men's Golf Association. He was an outstanding sportsman competing in tournament softball championships until the age of 70. He was a community leader and was actively involved in the Catholic Youth Organization for many years.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held 1 PM, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca with inurnment to follow in the church columbarium.
