Westminster – Douglas Mitchell Gibson, 77, husband of Lorraine Laverne Lewallen Gibson, 165 Gibson Road, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Cottingham Hospice House.

A native of Oconee County, he was the son of the late A.K. and Sue Bowen Gibson and was retired from Oconee County where he worked as a truck driver. Mr. Gibson was a member of Hepsibah Baptist Church where he was a former choir member and also he was a former deacon at Cross Roads Baptist Church. He was an avid baseball fan and gardener.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Lorraine, include two daughters, Carol Parson and husband Michael of Alto, GA, and Sharon Dockins of Westminster; brother, Tommy Gibson and wife Gladys of Westminster; sisters, Peggy Sheriff and husband Cecil, and Shirley White and husband Dennis all of Seneca; six grandchildren, Sherri Turner and husband Chris, Jason Dockins, Chasity Miles, Kayla Miles and Fiancé Tommy, and Daniel Day; and four great-grandchildren, Chloe and Carson Turner, Peyton Savage, and Logan Miles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Whaley; sister, Shelby Ables; and grandson, Christopher Canipe.

A funeral service will be held 4 PM, Sunday, May 26, 2013 from the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Heritage Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 3-4 PM, prior to the service, Sunday, at the funeral home. The family is at their respective homes.
