MAURICE CARTER

Long Creek – Maurice Edwards Carter, 84, formerly of the Battle Creek Community, husband of Lois Smith Rogers Carter, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 at Seneca Health and Rehab.

Born in the Battle Creek Community, he was the son of the late Noah and Macie Whitworth Carter. Mr. Carter was employed with the Bud Company in Detroit where he worked as a Machinist, and also worked as a supervisor with Valenite and Walhalla Garment. He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church and also was an avid fisherman.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Lois, include two sons, Philip Carter and wife Allyson of Westminster, and Steve Carter of Columbia; stepchildren, Susan Hopkins and husband Marty of Salem, Lynne Martin and husband Eddie of Tamassee, Scott Rogers and wife Teresa also Salem, and Sherry Moore and husband Allen of Walhalla; brothers, Billie Carter and wife Loma of Moncks Corner, Winfred Carter and wife Jean of Long Creek, and Harold Carter and wife Brenda of Brasstown; sister, Shirley Price of Seneca; six grandchildren, Adam Carter, Adam Hopkins, Sena Morris, Josh Rogers, Gavin Martin and Zeke Moore; three great-grandchildren, Caroline Hopkins, Jameson Hopkins and Jenna Morris; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie Sue Burrell Carter; sons, Roger Edward Carter and Michael Edward Carter; and a brother, Frank Carter.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 at Damascus Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. prior to the service.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Sandifer Funeral Home. The family is at their respective homes. Flowers are accepted or memorials in his memory may be made to Damascus Baptist Church, 256 Brasstown Road, Westminster, SC 29693.
